An Ember In The Ashes: Sabaa Tahir

Here’s to love, to bravery, to sacrifice. Here’s to being an ember in the ashes. I loved this book, I loved everything about it. I enjoyed the beauty of the characters’ words and thoughts, their desires, their dreams; Laia’s persistence, Elias’ courage. This book made me think, made me drown in a whirlwind of emotions and curiosity, it taught me how one survives through life while suffering through hardship and loss. The characters in this book were very likable, they all had a story the reader could relate to. It was interesting to see how both of our main characters connected with one another. Of course, there were also those characters which I undeniably hated, or found deeply annoying, but that goes to show how Sabaa Tahir can work both ends of the spectrum. Laia: She was a strong character. She had flaws, as did Elias, but she found ways through them. She took risks, which I liked, and was not afraid to fight for what she loved or deemed morally right. Elias: The defiance which burned through his body was admiring. He stood for everything his people did not; I liked how his character was against his birthright. He battled his inner demons and his heart was in he right place. Keenan: Mr. Red firery hair, I like you very much. Helene: Girl, I like you but please stop and listen to Elias. The ending left me gawking at my book, just when things were going the way I wanted them to I was mercilessly thrown with a cliffhanger! And you know how irked up I get about those. Great book! 5 shinning stars!
